In a crucial Game 4 showdown, the Mellieha Rookies came out swinging in front of their home crowd, holding off the Mustangs with a 3-1 win to level the series at two games apiece.
The Mustangs struck first in the opening frame. Matteo Ciappara set the tone with a booming triple to left field and was driven home shortly after by a sharp single from Amy Summer Elliot, who reached second on an error.
Mellieha responded immediately in the bottom of the first. Daniel Vella Caruana got things rolling with a single, and Lucia Zhang followed with a clutch triple to bring him home. Zhang then crossed the plate thanks to a double by Zack Xuereb, who would also score on another extra-base hit by Tiberio Monti.
Following the early burst of offense, the game settled into a tighter rhythm. Cody Tabone limited the Mustangs to just the single run, holding firm throughout. For the Mustangs, Elliot recovered well and managed to silence the Rookies offense, with Samuel Moreno coming in afterwards and continuing to keep them in check.
With everything now on the line, both teams will head into the winner-takes-all Game 5 this Saturday, May 31st at 09:00 at the Marsa Sports Grounds.
