In the second game of Sunday’s double-header, Sliema had their eyes on a sweep.
The game opened with the Mustangs making an early statement, scoring in the first inning and taking a 1-0 lead. However, the Patriots quickly responded, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to pull ahead 3-1. Both teams showcased solid defensive work in the second inning, holding each other scoreless and keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.
In the third inning, the Mustangs managed to narrow the gap, putting two more runs on the board to bring the score to 3-3. However, the Patriots once again stepped up offensively, adding two runs of their own to maintain the lead, 5-3.
The fourth inning proved decisive as the Patriots mounted an impressive offensive rally, scoring five runs to widen the lead to 10-3. Despite the Mustangs’ best efforts to regroup, the Patriots’ strong defense kept them at bay. In the fifth inning, the Patriots capped off their performance with three more runs, securing their commanding 13-3 victory.
Key performances on the Patriots’ side included Dillon Adams, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, helping to fuel the team’s offensive efforts. Gabriel di Sabattino added two hits, including a double, with an RBI. Jorge Acosta was unstoppable, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Alvin Barroso also shined, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Fernando Berroteran contributed an RBI.
With this win, the Sliema Patriots solidified their chances for a 3rd place finish and a trip to the playoffs.
