Coming off a thrilling win earlier in the day, the Mellieha Northenders wasted no time establishing their offense, opening with three runs in the first inning. Matt Borg’s two-run double brought early momentum and Mattheus Konno followed up with an RBI single, setting a solid pace for the rest of the game.
The Sliema Patriots tightened their defense in the second, holding Mellieha scoreless. However, in the third inning, Mellieha’s offense broke through and extended the lead to 5-0. Although Sliema prevented damage in the 4th inning, the floodgates opened in the 5th. The Northenders unleashed another offensive surge, scoring four more runs. Matt Borg once again came through with an RBI double, and Klemen Skrabec followed with an RBI triple to center field, extending the lead to 9-0.
Mellieha weren’t done yet as in the subsequent inning, Michael Bartolo’s RBI single brought Kevin Borg home, and Matt Borg’s sacrifice fly to center field scored Steven Grima, pushing the final score to 11-0. The game was marked by exceptional performances, particularly by Michael Bartolo, who went 4-for-4, scored four runs, and drove in four RBIs. Bartolo’s all-around contribution, both offensively and defensively at shortstop.
Heading into November, Mellieha now sit alone atop the National Slowpitch League standings.
