On Saturday, August 24th, the Malta Baseball and Softball Association held its annual Awards Night for the 2023/24 season. The event celebrated another successful baseball and softball season, recognizing outstanding achievements across the leagues and awarding the top performers in both Baseball and Slowpitch Softball.
In the Baseball category, Mr. Ray Bartolo presented Owen Harnden from the Mellieha Northenders the Ray Bartolo Award, given to the rookie of the year in the sport. The Pat Pace Award, given to the best hitter, was awarded to Efrain Dejan from the Mustangs, and presented by Pat Pace’s daughter. Mustangs’ Jorge Acosta took the Best Fielder award while Mellieha’s Keith Bartolo took home the award of baseball’s Most Valuable Player.
For Slowpitch Softball, association president Mr. Andrew Bajo presented the awards. Brewers’ Gustavo Alvarez was given the Rookie of the Year award while Diego Scuro from the Sliema Patriots was awarded the Best Fielder award. Mustangs’ slugger Daniele Palumbo was awarded the Best Hitter award and Michael Bartolo from the Mellieha Northenders won the award of Most Valuable Player.
After much anticipation, the new uniforms for the Women’s National Softball Team were revealed and distributed to all the players. The team is set to compete in the WBSC Women’s Softball European Championship, taking place from the 1st to the 7th of September in Utrecht, Amsterdam.
