Recap
The second game of Sunday’s playoff series was a must-win for the Mustangs after their loss in the first game. They hit the ground running, leading by 1 run after the 1st inning with an RBI double by slugger Daniele Palumbo. Solid defence from both sides kept the game close until the 3rd inning in which Sliema erupted for 5 runs. A huge day at the plate from Jorge Acosta sparked the Patriots’ offense, going 4 for 4.
Extra-base hits from Mark Buttigieg and Alfred Chen brought the Mustangs back within 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With pressure mounting, the Sliema Patriots ensured that their lead was safe. With men on base, doubles from Alvin Barroso and Fernando Berroteran scored the insurance runs which they needed to complete their 13-5 win.
Jorge Acosta was voted the MVP of the game for his clutch defensive plays and huge hits at the plate. This win advanced the Patriots to the final scheduled for the 14th of April, to be played at the Marsa Baseball and Softball field.
