Starting off their weekend double-header, the Saints and Mustangs combined for a whopping 34 runs in this offensive showdown. The Saints hit the ground running with a 5-run first inning which saw home runs from Jason Ward and Marko Lahtinen. The Mustangs immediately countered in the bottom of the inning, scoring 5 runs of their won highlighted by an out of the park HR from Daniele Palumbo.
The lead continued shifting back and forth as extra base hits from Matthew Ellul Sullivan and Joe Debono of the Saints kept putting pressure on the Mustangs. Rookie right fielder Benjamin Frendo made an amazing catch which kept the game tied late in the game. Ultimately, a clutch hit by the Mustangs’ Daniel Palombo sealed the game netting him the MVP of the game. A big shout out also goes to Andrei Scerri of Mustangs who tallied a hit in his first game with the team.
Both teams now look to convert this offensive momentum into a win in the second game.
