Recap
League leaders Mellieha Northenders hit the ground running on Sunday in their 1st game of the double-header against Mustangs. The Northenders erupted for five runs in the opening inning and set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Stellar pitching from Clint Grima and steadfast defense particularly by third basemen Matt Borg kept the Mustangs offense at bay. Mellieha’s Kyle Vella led the offensive charge with a stellar 3-for-4 outing, including a pair of singles and a double, accompanied by an impressive four runs batted in. Grima himself delivered at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 and contributing four RBIs, ultimately earning the title of MVP for his stellar contributions in both pitching and hitting. The Mustangs countered with solid 2-for-3 performances from Michael Pitzschel and Daniele Palombo which included a home run by Palombo.
The Mustangs now look to bounce back in the second game.
