As they look to bounce back after the 1st game, the Saints started off well with a 2-run 1st inning from the heart of their order. The Mustangs immediately responded with extra base hits from Kevin Spiteri, Daniele Palumbo and Michael Pitzschel. After the 1st inning, the Mustangs lead by 1.
In a close game, the two sides continued exchanging runs in subsequent innings. In the 5th inning, the Saints took a 1-run lead as Joe Debono had a memorable game, going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate and also made a run-saving catch at second base. Starting at the bottom of the 5th inning, the Mustangs scored 9 unanswered runs which gave them a comfortable lead, capped with a home run from Efrain Dejan.
In the 6th inning, the Saints threatened to get back in the game with multiple runners on base but centre fielder Efrain Dejan stopped the rally with a spectacular diving catch! The Mustangs proceeded to win the game with a score of 19 – 11. Mark Buttigieg shined offensively for the Mustangs, going 5 for 5 at the plate and winning him the MVP for the game. Rookie Ryan Gafa had a debut to remember for the Mustangs as he got his first 2 hits for the team.
After this weekend, the Mustangs finish their regular season with 10 wins.
