On Sunday 6th April, the Marsa Baseball and Softball field hosted Game 4 of the National Baseball League which saw the Mellieha Northenders looking to even out the series against the leaders Mustangs.
The Mustangs struck early in the bottom of the first, as Andres Susarra led off with a double and soon crossed home plate thanks to a sharp RBI single by Jorge Acosta, giving the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead.
The second inning saw the Mustangs continue their pressure. Gabriel di Sabatino singled, followed by a two-run rally capped by Efrain Deyan’s RBI double and another run-scoring hit from Acosta. By the end of the frame, the Mustangs were up 4-0. Di Sabatino and Acosta stayed hot in the third, combining again with a walk and an RBI double to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Northenders showed signs of life in the fourth when shortstop Michael Bartolo reached base and scored on a fielder’s choice, cutting the deficit to 5-1. However, Mustangs’ starting pitcher Kevin Spiteri remained composed, collecting four strikeouts across his outing while limiting Mellieha to just one run over 65 pitches.

The Mustangs answered right back in the bottom of the fourth with another RBI single from Acosta, who finished the game 4-for-4 with 3 RBI, widening the gap to 6-1.
Relievers Andres Susarra and Jorge Acosta combined to shut down any hopes of a Northenders comeback. Susarra threw 22 efficient pitches, while Acosta closed it out with 10 pitches and a strikeout, sealing the win.
While the Mustangs controlled much of the game, reliever Vincenzo Mazzamuto impressed for Mellieha, keeping them within reach with two scoreless innings.
All eyes are now on Game 5 scheduled for Saturday the 19th of April at the Marsa Baseball and Softball field.
