With the teams all tied up at 1 win each, Game 3 of the National Baseball League featured an intense showdown for the lead in the championship.

The game started with two scoreless innings, as pitchers Henry Wang for the Mustangs and Vincenzo Mazzamuto for the Northenders kept opposing hitters in check. The Mustangs struck first in the third, when Andres Susarra ripped an RBI triple to drive in Henry Wang while Efrain Deyan drove Susarra in with a well-placed single.

The Northenders responded quickly in the bottom of the inning when Michael Bartolo drove in Steven Grima with a single, followed by Masashi Suzuki’s 2-run double which gave Mellieha an early 3-2 lead.

In the fourth inning, Kevin Spiteri’s RBI double tied the game before Jorge Acosta’s clutch RBI double gave the Mustangs a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning.

Mustangs’ pitcher Henry Wang proceeded to shutdown Mellieha’s offense with 3 strikeouts and handed the ball to Andres Susarra over in relief. Susarra continued dominating on the mound with eight strikeouts of his own over his outing. Meanwhile, the Mustangs’ offense kept rolling. In the sixth, Diego Lara tripled and later scored, while Michael Pitzschel added an RBI hit and scored, extending the lead to 7-3. The Mustangs added a final insurance run in the seventh with Susarra’s RBI double, making it 8-3.

Refusing to go down quietly, the Northenders mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. With two runners on, Suzuki crushed a two-run triple and scored on a passed ball, cutting the deficit to 8-6. However, closer Jorge Acosta came in to pitch, shutting the door with a strikeout to earn the save and seal the victory for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs now lead the National Baseball League with 2 wins as we now head to Game 4, scheduled for the 6th of April.
