Recap
A much anticipated series between the Sliema Patriots and Mellieha Northenders started off with a bang on Sunday morning. Mellieha wasted no time to get on the board. A 3-run home run by shortstop Michael Bartolo highlighted a 4-run 1st inning for Mellieha. Sliema immediately responded with a 3-run inning, bringing the game within 1 run.
In the 3rd frame, Mellieha’s Steven Grima connected on a 3-run home run giving his team a 5-run lead. In another turn of events, Sliema stormed right back in the game and took a 1-run lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Jorge Acosta and Alvin Barroso contributed to this comeback with a combined 7RBIs.
As the game turned into the later stages, Masashi Suzuki came up clutch for the Northenders with a late 3-run homerun. This sealed the game in favour of Mellieha, ending with a score of 15-12. Another defensive clinic by Michael Bartolo at shortstop wins him the MVP of the game.
