Determined to take an important win in the second game, the Mellieha Northenders and Mustangs ended the game separated only by one run.
Mellieha jumped to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning, but the Mustangs quickly responded with one of their own. The Northenders extended their advantage with a three-run surge in the third inning, highlighted by Masashi Suzuki’s two-run homer. Despite Mellieha’s efforts to pull away, the Mustangs remained resilient, clawing back with three runs in the fourth inning.
The game intensified as both teams exchanged blows, with Mellieha securing a crucial five-run inning in the fifth, only for the Mustangs to answer with four runs in the sixth. In a tense final inning, the Mustangs fought to close the gap but fell short, ultimately conceding defeat to the Northenders.
Clint Grima shone for Mellieha, delivering a stellar performance on the mound and contributing offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 record and two RBIs. Mark Buttigieg and Efrain Deyan led the charge for the Mustangs, displaying power at the plate with extra-base hits and home runs.
With this win, Mellieha Northenders now hold 1st place in the National Slowpitch League.
